The Quackenbush 230Q Series is a heavy duty automatic positive feed drilling machine designed for large-diameter hole-making in aerospace structural applications. With 1,800 lb (8,000 N) of thrust and a nominal capacity of 1-3/8" (35 mm) in aluminum, the 230Q delivers the power and rigidity required for oversized fastener holes, reaming operations, and heavy stack drilling that lighter positive feed drills simply cannot handle.

The 230Q features a fully automatic drill cycle — start, feed, retract, stop — with eight selectable feed rates ranging from .0005 to .012 in/rev, giving operators precise control across a wide range of materials and hole sizes. For applications requiring continuously adjustable speed, the 230QBV and 230QRV variable speed models eliminate the need for fixed gear changes, allowing operators to dial in the exact RPM needed for the material and cutter combination at hand. Both inline and right-angle configurations are available, with the right-angle models starting as low as 50 RPM for demanding titanium and hard-metal applications.

An external shear pin protects the gear head from overload and can be replaced in the field without returning the tool for service. The 230Q also includes a thrust overload feature that prevents damage during countersinking or in the event of a broken cutter. Optional Mitis chip fragmentation is available for stack drilling applications, along with on-board coolant, a cycle counter for tracking cutter life and maintenance intervals, and a depth dwell attachment for precision countersinking. Fixturing options include twist lock bushings with or without vacuum.
